Home Education Guidance Consultation

The First Step

The consultation on revised home education guidance closes on January 18th 2024. This post is mainly written for everyone who tells me “I know it’s important but I haven’t been able to face looking at it yet”. The proposed new guidance is not ready to be used. It is still at the draft stage. The current guidance can be found here https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/elective-home-education

At some point before January 18th you need to be on page 10 of the consultation where it says Almost done … and to make that a reality you need to get past page 1 first.

This post doesn’t have lots of links to click for downloading documents or reading opinions or watching videos. It is purely about taking that first step. If you take the first step NOW, then you will know you have made a start.

I wanted to see what the last page looked like to check if there was a box for “Any Other Comments” – there isn’t.) When I got here I quickly clicked on “Back” and then “save and come back later”.

Save and come back later

When you go to https://consult.education.gov.uk/elective-home-education-team/elective-home-education-guidance-review/consultation/intro/

This is the first page you will see

There are 3 questions on the first page but only Q1 is “required” so if you check ANY box on Q1 you can scroll down and click on “save and come back later”.

Save and send email

Clicking on save and come back later takes you here

I have done save and come back later multiple times. Each time you save and come back later you will need to enter your email address in the box and then click Save and send email.

You will then get an email headed “Return Code” from Site Administrator with a clickable link for you to return to your saved response. The email will say “Thank you for taking the time to start your response. If you’d like to come back, edit and submit your incomplete response, please click the following link or copy and paste it into your browser’s address bar. You have until the close date of 18 Jan 2024 to submit your response.”

You don’t have to work through the answer form page by page. If you have a particular point you want to make, you can just go in and find the relevant question
